Brighten Up Your Look With Bold Sunglasses Inspired by celebrities
Celebrities know that they have to be camera-ready at all times. What better way to make an outfit bright and bold, cool and collected, or subtle and sultry, then with high fashion sunglasses?
When it comes to accessorizing your look with sunglasses, there is lots of celebrity inspiration, from runway chic to downtown edge. Many celebrities stick to the classic, round Jackie O styles, which are always polished, ladylike and a little bit fun. Super powered trendsetters like Rachel Zoe or Gwyneth Paltrow love to pair big round classic frames with their long, center-parted hair for a low-key but pulled-together look. Others are feeling the hipster vibe, like Katy Perry, with classic Wayfarer looks, sometimes in black or tortoiseshell, and sometimes in bright, vivid summery shades.
Some celebrities achieve a classic, covet-able look with aviators with tinted or mirrored lenses (yes, mirrored lenses are making a comeback from the ski slopes!). Beachy, fun but glamorous looks, completed with metallic frames with gradient lenses, are spotted on Real Housewives stars Kyle and Lisa, with Lisa especially loving the colored mirrored lenses for gorgeous sunny day photo-ops. Kerry Washington has been snapped in classic aviators and a cute retro baseball tee. Some choose a quirky cats’-eye look, to bring a pop of retro fun into an otherwise plain outfit of jeans and a cute t-shirt – think Taylor Swift or Lily Collins, really having fun with it. Who’s your style inspiration?
In 2018, we’re seeing a lot of embellished and jeweled frames, some so elaborate and sparkly that you won’t need any jewelry! From crystals, to tiny bejewelled butterflies and flowers, to carefully inlaid gems sparkling all around the eyepiece and arms, you will love these looks, especially if the rest of your outfit is more laid back. It’s an instant kick to any plain, airy dress!
Looking for a pop of color or a stand-out white? You’re in luck with celebrity trends in sunglasses. A bright white plastic frame looks terrific with a tan and a bright, saturated lip color like fuchsia, red, or coral. A metallic frame can complement almost any outfit but looks especially sharp with coordinating metal jewelry. Standard black or tortoiseshell always looks classic, against any hair color and skin tone. A great new trend is multi-colored or animal print frames, too. Even python print is trending for 2018. If you’re looking to add a little bit of edge to your look, but you still want to have some sweetness, look no further than Selena Gomez and her summery two-tone frames.
When considering what size and shape of sunglasses you love best, dermatologists agree that big glasses do the most to protect your eyes and the delicate skin around them from the sun’s rays. It doesn’t hurt that they add an air of mystery to your look, even if you’re just hiding the fact that you stayed out late last night! Round lenses with the classic keyhole design over the bridge (the part that rests on the top of the bridge of your nose) are heating up, with durable acrylic and plastic eyepieces in a variety of brights and neutral (our favorite is a very neutral beige-pink, which looks terrific against a variety of skin tones!). Fine metal frames are lightweight and perfect for wearing for long periods of time.
With so many celebrities wearing different styles, how do you choose the best sunglasses for your face shape and personal style? If you have an oval face, you’re in luck, because most glasses will complement your features. (Think Luck Liu, Eva Mendes and Jada Pinkett Smith.) If you have a high forehead, like Rihanna, you can get away with a bigger pair all over. A square face, like Keira Knightley’s, or one with a strong jaw, like Angelina Jolie’s, can look fantastic in a bigger frame to balance out the lower part of your face. In general, if you want to de-emphasize a face shape, try to avoid repeating that shape in your glasses. With so many different new choices in every shape you are sure to find your perfect fit.
Whether you want to invest in a quality piece, or are updating your accessory stash with a fun, celebrity-inspired look, sunglasses are your secret weapon.
